New books
After reading The Thousand Mile Summer by Colin Fletcher, I had a hunt around for similar books depicting backpacking journeys.
'High Summer - backpacking in the Canadian Rockies' and 'The Great Backpacking Adventure' by our own Chris Townsend came up in searches , but they were not available through Amazon (out of print). A quick hunt around found Chris's website - he has some left and sells them online. A quick email to Chris and within two days, they had arrived, despite the horrible storms he was suffering 'up there'.
I am in the middle of The Wild Places by Robert Macfarlane at the moment, but I have quickly dipped into the Pennine Way chapter of 'The Great Backpacking Adventure' and it is everything I had hoped it would be - a blow by blow account of his adventures.
Get 'em while you still can, thanks Chris!

I've read both of the books that you mention by Chris, and i would recommend them both to anyone interested in backpacking.
I don't know 1000 mile summer though, where did you come across that?
Hi here 'Two Pounds'.
Colin Fletcher died last summer and there was a lot of online info knocking around in the blogs and OM at the time.
I managed to get his book (pretty rare now) from a US Amazon seller. It's a great story of his walk from Mexico to Oregon, which I believe he did in the late 1950's. From that point of view, it's very interesting to study the changes in kit, technique and his attitude to the environment (killing every snake he comes across!). If you have trouble finding a copy, I would be happy to lend you mine.
Chris
PS. Subscribed to your blog, great start!
